Adho Mukha Svanasana, Downward Dog

Adho Mukha Svanasana focuses on your upper back (although it uses much more of your body). Its many benefits include:

I remember struggling with this pose in the beginning; it felt almost unnatural. Other yogis around me seemed to have this perfect triangular shape and I was this awkward, angled form. It was only after practicing for a long time that I could see my improvement. My form adjusted slowly to make that inverted V-shape, my arms felt stronger, I could focus on my breathing. This pose that was awkward and foreign to my body slowly became comfortable and natural, quickly becoming a therapeutic pose for me. It’s essential to my vinyasa and is a great tension relief.

Some people just don’t have stretchy achilles tendons… nothing to worry about. That is why yoga is so great, you adapt...
